Recently I have received a lot of requests on Instagram to share how/why I started my Instagram and website. I am so so passionate about this topic and I’m excited to share this with everyone!
So, I started my Instagram, @hannahharvestinghealth, in May of 2016 really just for fun and to kick start a little accountability of eating healthy in college. It was kinda rough the first two years, as I had to eat in a dining hall that didn’t have many healthy options. Most times I resorted to the salad bar (which was small– no clean dressings and no protein) and the fruit bar. Those foods normally wouldn’t fill me up, so I started to buy a few things to keep in my dorm room (protein bars, GF breads, veggies, yogurt, fruit, etc.). Once this started, I really gained an interest in looking at the specific ingredients on food labels and what I was fueling my body with. I began to really notice a difference when I started focusing on eating whole foods that truly nourished my body. After moving out of a dorm and into an apartment for my Junior year of college, I really gained an interest in creating recipes, trying out others’ recipes, and the overall creativity that this “foodie” community has created! This niche I had found was a blessing and an outlet for my creativity to run wild in. When I started this Instagram, I had no idea that it would play such a large role in my life, and I’m so grateful it did.
Sharing food pics seemed a little strange to me at first lol, but it ended up being so much more than that…
-Being able to help others maintain a balanced lifestyle in eating and exercising
-Connecting with others that share the same passion for food and fitness
-Gaining more knowledge, myself, in what ‘balanced eating’ truly means
-and constantly being surrounded by so many creative and encouraging people that motivate me to be my absolute best!
Starting my website was a little tricky, but after I put in a little research, I learned everything (well just about everything) I needed to be successful in the whole set up process. I found a website designer on Etsy, Creative Santosh —> (https://www.etsy.com/shop/CreativeSantosh?ref=search_shop_redirect), who ended up being amazing! I had to pay to get it set up, but it was all worth it! I am so glad I ended up going with him to design my website because he created an amazing design, he set it up and added in everything I needed, and I can still email him with questions I have! But before having him design my website, I had to actually pick what domain I wanted to use, so I set it up using WordPress (the .org one not the .com one) and Bluehost as my domain. My main reasons for creating this website was to be able to share my recipes with you all, allow you to learn more about me, provide you with discount codes from my favorite companies and brands, and be able to write blog posts to share my thoughts and ideas on different topics, mainly pertaining to harvesting my health in various ways– spiritually, mentally, and physically.
Overall, within the creation of all of this, I have learned and grown so much! I originally was an ECE major, but because of how much an impact this whole thing has had on me I changed my major to Consumer Journalism (5 days before class started….HA) in hopes of finding a job with a healthy food company to either work for PR/Social media or writing/editorial work for a magazine! It has truly become a passion I never saw myself pursuing, but I am so glad I stepped out of my comfort zone to aim towards a dream job that will truly make me happy. So if you are thinking about starting a food/fitness Instagram or website OR changing your major, all I can see is– DO IT! It may just change your life like it did mine 🙂 If you have any questions/comments, please either message me on Instagram (@hannahharvestinghealth) or send me an email (firstname.lastname@example.org)! I really appreciate every single one of you, and thank YOU for reading along!
